Disclaimer
This site's calculators produce an estimate of paycheck withholding based on the inputs you provide and the statutory sources cited on each page. They are not legal, tax, or accounting advice, and they are not a substitute for your employer's actual payroll system, a licensed CPA, an enrolled agent, or an attorney.
The Michigan paycheck calculator on this site models a Form W-4 from 2020 or later only; it does not model a pre-2020 Form W-4. It computes regular-wage withholding and does not model supplemental or bonus-wage withholding, which both federal and Michigan law treat under different rules than regular pay. It applies pre-tax deductions to the federal, Michigan, and city tax bases uniformly, without determining whether a specific deduction type is exempt from Social Security and Medicare tax, since that depends on the deduction's own terms. It applies a Michigan state exemption prorated evenly across your pay periods, which is our own arithmetic, not a table Michigan publishes; the page states this next to the relevant figure.
Statutory figures are sourced from primary government publications as of the date noted on the calculator page and may change. If a figure this calculator produces differs from your actual paycheck, your employer's payroll system, your state's own withholding calculator, or a qualified professional's advice should be treated as authoritative, not this site.
